Texas' Licensed Real Estate Salesperson Requirements

What are the state of Texas' requirements to become a licensed real estate agent?
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  2. Must be a citizen of the United States or lawfully admitted alien.
  3. Must be a resident of Texas.
  4. Meet the Texas Real Estate Commission's qualifications for honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity.
  5. Must have fingerprints taken and pass a background check.
  6. Must complete 180 hours of qualifying real estate education.
  7. Must be sponsored by an active Texas licensed broker to work. License will be issued in inactive state until you have a sponsor.

Texas' Licensed Real Estate Broker Requirements

What are the state of Texas' requirements to become a licensed real estate broker?
  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Must be a citizen of the United States or lawfully admitted alien.
  3. Must be a resident of Texas unless you:
    • were licensed in Texas as a sales agent or broker in the last two years; or
    • are licensed as a broker in another state.
  4. Must meet the Texas Real Estate Commission's qualifications for honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity.
  5. Must complete 270 hours of qualifying real estate courses. An additional 630 classroom hours in related qualifying courses is also required.
  6. Applicants must also have four years active experience as a licensed real estate agent during the 60 month period preceding the application.
  7. Must have fingerprints taken and pass a background check

Texas' Licensed Real Estate CE Requirements

What are the state of Texas' Continuing Education requirements for Real Estate Salespersons, Associate Brokers and Real Estate Brokers?
Real Estate Salesperson License CE Requirements:

Agents wanting to renew their active salesperson license must complete 18 hours of approved Continuing Education courses. If you have been made a supervisor by your broker for three months or more, you need to take the 6-hour Broker Responsibility course as part of your 18 hours CE.

If you have not submitted your fingerprints for TREC with a previous renewal or application, you must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check.

Designated Broker or Delegated Associate Broker License CE Requirements:

Agents looking to renew their active broker license must complete 18 hours of approved Continuing Education courses. If you have sponsored one or more sales agents, served as the designated broker for a business entity broker that sponsors sales agents, or have been made a supervisor of other license holders, you will need to take the 6 hour Broker Responsibility Course as part of your 18 hours of CE.

If you have not submitted your fingerprints for TREC with a previous renewal or application you must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check.
