New York's Licensed Real Estate Salesperson Requirements

What are the state of New York's requirements to become a licensed real estate agent?
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Must have successfully completed a Department of State approved 75-hour qualifying course.
  3. If you have completed the 45-hour salesperson qualifying course prior to July 1, 2008, you may complete the 30 hour remedial courses in order to qualify for licensure.
  4. You must be sponsored by a NYS licensed real estate broker and pass the NYS real estate salesperson examination. No previous experience required.

New York's Licensed Real Estate Broker Requirements

What are the state of New York's requirements to become a licensed real estate broker?
  1. Must be at least 20 years of age and being a U.S. Citizen or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
  2. Broker license applicants must have at least two years of full time experience as an active licensed real estate salesperson, or at least three years of full time experience in the general real estate field.
  3. Broker license applicants need to successfully complete 120 hours of specific approved real estate courses before taking the real estate exams.
  4. Applicants need to apply for their license within two years of passing the exam or exam results will be invalidated.

Once expired, the licensee will have to take the state written examination again. No continuing education courses are required in order to repeat the licensing process again.
